Here we are, my lovelies - nearing the close of our year. Goodness, much can change in twelve months' time.
With the dawn of the twelfth month, those who know me also know I like to write about a word.
Not just any word, mind you... but the word that has shaped my being and becoming over the past year.
Rise.
I wasn't sure what led me to it. Suddenly one day, it claimed me for its own. I suppose the LORD knows what you will need though you may not have a glimpse of it.
There have been some glorious highs for certain in the past year - but I can say with great honesty that there were some astounding lows as well. Many days I found myself reaching for hope as I waited with those I love for test results, and waited on the LORD for clarity in my own struggles.
How often are we tempted to give in to despair? To relinquish our joy and become numb to what lies around us?
We may experience some persecution as Christians in a postmodern world. I would dare say we are prepared for that. But what about attacks on our own selves?
Whether they come directly from the devil, or through other people - it can be difficult to stand up for yourself. To defend your calling, your place in the world, your priorities.
I found myself in places which required me to find the strength to respond - to show up, to lead, to defend. None of it could be done on my own.
To rise, we must let our voices become LOUDER than the lies of the devil. It means to not let ourselves be silenced or shamed into holding back the Truth.
In what areas of your life may you be holding back? Shrinking back in fear of seeming like too much? Not wanting to rock the boat, so you endure more harm than you should?
I would like to challenge you to pursue bravery in how you take up space in the world, and in your communities.
What do you have to contribute to those around you? How has the LORD made you valuable to His Kingdom? Let us not discredit ourselves by listening to the doubts placed in our minds by the devil.
Where are the needs in your homes, in your friend circles, in your churches? Let us not allow a lack of committed, gentle leadership to remain the theme where God is working. Let us step up to the plate, claiming the gifts and callings which He assigns to each. (1 Cor. 12)
Where can you rise up?
